Tingirtu Gebretsadik says it is not a demonstration, it is rage over the massacre of Amhara

Tingirtu Gebretsadik, who is teaching sociology at Jijiga University, has a different take about the demonstrations that have been taking place in several cities in Amhara region of Ethiopia for the past few weeks.

He calls it “rage.” Rage over the non-stop killing of the Amhara. Furthermore, he made insightful remarks about the moves of radical forces that are unleashing attack on Amhara.

Military helicopter crashed in Tigray, Ethiopian Defense Force confirms

Let. General Bacha Debele on Friday confirmed a military helicopter crashed in Tigray. However, he dismissed claims by Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) supporters that the helicopter was shot down.

He said it crashed because of technical problems.

Furthermore, Gen. Bacha Debele claimed that the Ethiopian Defense Force foiled TPLF leaders attempt to escape to Sudan. The guerrilla forces who were aiding the leaders to escape to Sudan were routed, he added.

Brigadier General Tesfaye Ayalew briefing media bout Tigray People’s Liberation (TPLF) forces attempt to enter Ethiopia from a Sudan.

The force was composed of 320 people. Over 100 of them reportedly killed during the military operation.

Where is the politics of religion taking Ethiopia? Watch this video.

There have been attempts to start religious conflict and aggravate them in a way to consume Ethiopia – and perhaps disintegrate it.

Recently, the politics of religion came to the fore when Ethiopian Muslims organized iftar – at Meskel Square – which is said to be the largest open air iftar in Africa. Some have opposed it and some have supported it. Former Addis Neger journalist and his colleague, Amare. For them, the plan to held the event at Meskel square is motivated by political Islam. In fact, there were few that seemed to have raised the agenda that Meskel square needed to be renamed as Eid Square.

In the same week, Patriarch of Ethiopian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Abune Mathias, released a video that was given extensive coverage in the mainstream media in the west. The Patriarch said that he is stifled and that there is an ongoing “Genocide in Tigray.”

In the video below, Tamrat Negera asserts that Ethiopia has “passed” a stage of class politics and ethnic politics. Now religion is taking over as an organizing unit for political struggle. Watch it and share your views in the comment section.

Getachew Reda, Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) spokesperson, says the U.S. stand on Ethiopia is commendable.

He vowed to revenge what he calls “Amhara elites” – a phrase many say is a code word to mean Amhara.

Since the TPLF forces lost the war in December, the voices of Chairman of the TPLF, Debretsion Gebremichael, is not heard. There have been rumors that he was killed in one of the battles in the region.

Speaking on rumors of death including himself, Getachew Reda says “the death of individuals is a non-issue.”
