Ethiopia has officially announced that it has completed the first phase of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) filling in Tuesday.

In an interview with Arts TV world, Mekdelawit Messay reflects on multifaceted challenges that emanated from systemic failures.

Much of the issues she talked about need to be given due consideration by policy makers (especially education policy).

Possible reservation for those who tend to think critically is the notion of internationalism (in social media some describe it as global citizenship). What really constitute internationalism is a question that the critical mass is grappling to understand. it remain a question in view of the history of it, the status quo and the global conquest agenda through culture, economic repression – among other things.)

Massacre of Orthodox Christians in Dera, Arsi

Residents of Dera, in Arsi, Oromo region of Ethiopia, recount their experience of the attack after the assassination of Hachalu Hundessa.

They say they were attacked because of their religious identity (Ethiopian Tewahdo Orthodox Church).

About 139 households are currently residing in a church.

Shimelis Abdisa ‘s leaked audio, Prosperity Party political agenda

This week, YouTuber Zemedkun Bekele published a leaked audio of Shimelis Abdisa – which was recorded during a meeting with Prosperity Party Oromo Region Branch.

The audio reveals what Shimelis Abdisa believe is the agenda of Prosperity Party. Based on his narrative, the Prosperity Party is essentially a project of Oromizing Ethiopia at the expense of the rest of Ethiopians.

Taye Dendea, PR of the Prosperity Party in Oromo region, dismissed Shimelies statement about PP as false. He said the audio will be investigated. On Sunday, the Prosperity Party terminated Lemma Megersa as executive member of the party.

Agreements that Ethiopia signed on Abay river

Arts TV interview with Lemlem Fisseha, who is member of Ethiopia’s negotiating team on the GERD talk, on historical agreements that Ethiopia signed on the use of Abay river and other legal issues regarding the river is informative to say the least.

How do you understand the notion of equitable and fair use of the water? Does the existing use of water reflect that principle? These are among the questions that the conversation with Lemlem addresses.

Tadelech Hailemichael interview with Dereje Haile

Tadelech Hailemichael was a member of Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party (EPRP), and the wife of Birhanemeskel Reda, who was the leader the party.

She recently published a book entitled “Dagnaw Mane newu?” – Amharic for “who is the judge?”

In an interview with Dereje Haile (in Amharic) , she shared stories from the struggle of EPRP and about her late husband who died at the age of 36 as a leader of EPRP. Watch part I of the interview below.

Takele Uma responds to clandestine Condominium transfer allegation

On Monday August 31, 2020, Ethiopian Citizens For Social Justice Party (EZEMA) released the result of the study into the illegal transfer of more than 20,000 condominium units in Addis Ababa and illegal land grab. According to EZEMA document, about 213,000 square meters of land was illegally appropriated in five sub-cities.

For the party insiders, the study does not represent all parts of the city. It only reflects five sub-cities. Takele Uma, who is insinuated in the study as one of the responsible authorities of the city administration, denies the allegation. He says what is has done, in terms of condominium transfer, is the least he could do. Watch the interview below(in Amharic)

How a former Ethiopian soldier who lost his eyesight during war started successful metal works business

Corporate Mohammed Seid joined the Ethiopian ground force during the Somali invasion of Ethiopia in the late 1970’s. He fondly remembers the courage during the battle. He was wounded during the war.

After the defeat of invading Somalian forces, he took part in the war against the then rebel forces in Eritrea. But he lost his eyesight during the war at Debarq in 1989.

He had to return to his hometown as a blind man. With determination and courage, he started his own metal works business and he is successful. Watch his interview with the VOA Amharic below.
