Sentayehu Chekol and Elias Gerbru are members of Addis Ababa city Baladera council. They have been in jail for over four months on alleged grounds of suspicion in connection with what Ethiopian government called “attempted coup d’etat” on June 22 in Bahir Dar.

In an interview with Nahoo TV, they talk about their arrest and on the issue of Addis Ababa.

Azeb Mesfin interview with Semeneh Bayferes of Walta Television. She is Widow of the late Meles Zenawi and was once considered as one of the powerful TPLF figures. She was the CEO of TPLF conglomerate, TIRET, and director of Walta TV itself, among others.

With regard to the existing political crisis in Ethiopia, she remarked that “it is the leadership’s lack of competence that aggravated the problem.”

“What is the fate of Tigray,” as weird as the question may sound, leaders of Tigray people’s Liberation Front(TPLF) have openly disclosed that “there is a secessionist sentiment in the region.”

Other opposition parties in the region,like Arena for example, state that people in Tigray do not have anti-Ethiopian sentiment but the ruling party in the region (TPLF) is working on it.

In part II of the interview with Dereje Haile, former Ethiopian Airforce chief General Abebe Teklehaymanot talks about the war with Eritrea and the level of preparation on the part of Ethiopia, among other things.

He was a member of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) central committee. Before joining TPLF, he was a member of Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party (EPRP).

If you understanding of Walleligne Mekonnen, who is considered as, although not clear if it is rightly or wrongly, a champion of the politics of “nations, nationalities and people,” is blurry, the interview below ( in Amharic) is a must watch.

Gizaw Zewdu, who is a member of the Walleligne era generation of of Addis Ababa University, has spent a good deal of time analyzing Walleigne.

His interview with also give you clarity whether the generation of his time (Ya Tewuld) is to be blamed for everything that happened to Ethiopia or not.

Activists remark on news of Lemma Megersa difference with EPRDF leadership including Abiy

An Eyewitness talks about hijacked Ethiopian Airlines plane,Walleligne Mekonnen

On December 8, 1972 Seven Ethiopian students including Walleligne Mekonnen tried to hijack Asmara bound Ethiopian Airlines plane with 94 passengers.

At least six of them, includinng Walleligne, were killed. A hand grenade was also thrown. Several passengers were also killed. Despite all that the Ethiopian Airlines pilot managed to land the plane back to what was then Emperor Haileselassie I airport,now Bole International Airport.

Derebachew Mohammed, a lawyer by profession, was one of the passenger and was an eye witness to what transpired in the plane.

In this second part interview of “Who is Walleligne Mekonen,” Arts TV shares the Eye witness account. Watch the video below.

At the time the New York Times reported about the hijack, although with some inaccuracy. You could find the report here.

Apart from plane hijack story, this second part interview also explored important questions about Walleligne and the revolutionary fervor of the time. Among other questions, would the question of “nations and nationalities” happen had it not been for Wallelign Mekonen? The video has answer to all that.

Temesegen Desalegne’s informative writing about Lemma Megersa -“Lemma Begebeya”

In “Lemma Begebeya,” a writing Temesgen Desalegne published on Feteh Magazine, Amharic Magazine published in the capital, the writer revealed Lemma’s personality.

Lemma Megeresa was seen as one of the key leaders of the reform movement that toppled TPLF led government. Last week, he made his differences with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed public. Not just difference, he dismiss the “medemer” movement and said that he does not believe it. He also said that he does not believe in the formation of Prosperity Party. His political stand seem to be in line with his political personality that most Ethiopian may not know. It is in that sense that Temesgen’s writing may sound rather revealing.

Tsadkan Gebretensae talks about Abebe Tekelehaymanot, both were TPLF combatants during the 17 years of armed struggle, on the occasion of the latter’s book launch event sometime last week.

He described him, among many other ways, as some one who likes to put himself in the shoe of others under circumstances of differences.
