When one of the pioneers of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia,Taffara Deguefé, visited his home town Ankober after 40 years and asked residents what they would like him to do for them, all that residents of the rural town asked him was to renovate the aluminum sheet of the church as it was leaking during the rainy season. He noted it in his The Globe and Mail Best selling book, Minutes of an Ethiopian Century
Despite all the challenges of the time we are living in, most of it emanated from bad governance, Ethiopians in rural Ethiopia do still have strong attachment to God and their faith. And these humble Ethiopians are the very people who have been targets of hatred due to manufactured ethnic political propaganda as neftegna. Watch their Timkat celebration from this years.

Law and Justice standing committee in the Ethiopian parliament field study findings revealed gruesome human rights conditions of citizens who are in custody.
In the video below, members confirm suspects under investigation have been physically tortured so as to obtain information which constitutes duress.
When no sufficient evidence is obtained from the investigation process, suspects are held indefinitely without appearing before the court. Watch Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation video clip.

With all the uncertainties and complexities of the situation in Ethiopia, it has become gripping so much so that Ethiopians in the country and abroad are literally breathing Ethiopia.
The daughter of former Ethiopian leader Colonel Mengistu Hailemarim, Tigist Mengistu, released a second video message on her social media timeline.
The focus of her message, this time around, revolves around the resignation of prime minister Hailemriam Desalegne and the situation in the country. She says Ethiopians are wagging bitter resistance against what she calls indigenous colonial rule but, she says even bitter struggle is yet to come. Her message is to Ethiopians and opposition parties to unite and rise to the challenge.

In the tradition of US diplomacy, at least when it comes to Ethiopia, Rex Tillerson seems to send an equivocal message during a presser in Ethiopia. On the one hand, he tells Ethiopians to be patient for “democracy” after 27 good years of TPLF, which is a client regime to the United States on alleged grounds of the fight against Terrorism.On the other hand, he says “greater freedom” is the answer to the situation in Ethiopia.

Abiy Ahmed, now the prime minister of Ethiopia, made a thirty-minute speech in the parliament, 100 % from members of the ruling coalition after he was sworn-in.
In his thirty-minute Amharic speech, he touched upon political challenges that his government is living with, social challenges and economic challenges that Ethiopia is facing and vowed to work hard to eliminate them all.
Reflecting on the history of Ethiopia, he described the relationship with Eritrea not just of economic relevance but as a blood relation and expressed readiness to work with the government in Eritrea to resolve the existing problem in a way to restore amicable relation.
He also mentioned about regional challenges that emanate from strategic interests of different powers in the region and underscored the importance of unity among Ethiopians. He also mentioned the issue of the dam hailing what he called a popular support for the project.
In terms of social issues, he noted the challenge that corruption is posing and the task of bringing about quality to the education system in the country. He also raised the issue of women and the challenges they are facing and vowed that his government will support women.
In the same vein, he talked about the rights of Ethiopians to work freely in all parts of Ethiopia and cautioned about what he called “racism” – a reference to ethnic-based division in the country. He did not mention the role of the political and administrative system which is ethnically based.
As well, he vowed to provide opposition voices level playing field so that they can work freely.

Dr. Kassa Kebede sat with Sisay Agena of ESAT to discuss political developments in Ethiopia and the region. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, HR 128 resolution and regional politics in the Horn of Africa were among the issues discussed during the interview. Djbouti, Eritrea,South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia and the situation in the Gulf were also discussed vis-a-vis Ethiopia’s condition.
Dr Kasa shared his insights with no reservation and ended the interview with hope and best wishes for the new prime minister.

Last week, Abiy Ahmed made a speech in Mekele in which he said that the question of Wolqait is Ethiopian Diaspora manipulation.
His remark angered many in Gonder. Yesterday, Abiy Ahmed had a town hall meeting with residents of Gonder where one of the Wolqait question representative, Atalay Zafe, expressed disappointment of the people due to Abiy Ahmed’s remark. He was thrown to prison for speaking out on the question of Wolkait as a representative of people in Wolkait and was released when the government decided to release political prisoners.
During the meeting yesterday, Ataly Zafe spoke with clarity that the identity question belongs to the people in Wolqait and the entire Amhara people to which the audience responded with a great applause. Watch the video below.

Wolwalo Adigrat University soccer team coach and players attacked a referee in Addis Ababa Stadium. The attack happened when opponent team, Mekelakeya, scored the second goal to lead the game 2-1 in the 83rd minute of game.
Ethiopian Football Federation suspended week 23 of primer league games after the incident. Wolwalo Adigrat University announced that the coach is terminated and the players who are involved in the attack have received a “warning.”

Prime minister Abiy Ahmed received a welcome ceremony at the State House in Kenya. Kenya’s Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary, Monica Juma, received Abiy upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airpot in Nairobi.
His two days official state visit is initiated by the government of Kenya and is aimed at bolstering bilateral relations between the two countries particularly in the area of diplomacy and trade. Economic integration, regional security matters and Somali were among the agenda items for discussion between the two leaders.
Abiy reportedly raised the situation of Ethiopian prisoners in Kenya, mostly arrested for “illegal presence” in Kenya, to be released and for the dignified treatment of Ethiopians, according to state media, EBC. Government-affiliated media, Fana, also reported that Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta has agreed on the protection of Ethiopian citizens in Kenya.
In terms of economic cooperation, the two governments reportedly agreed to make the border region Moyale, where there has been ethnic tension and government killings in the Ethiopian side of the border, to made centers of commerce for people in the region.
